Splanky in Greenland concerns itself with travel, restlessness, and the traces of human settlement, in the North Atlantic and elsewhere.

The Splanky Notebooks is a miscellany of stray photographs, notes on work in progress and technique, and thoughts about what I am currently reading. It is available to paid subscribers only.

Both are written by Toby Ferris.

Splanky is a Neal Hefti tune, performed by the Count Basie Orchestra on The Atomic Mr. Basie (1958). The word means something like chill, funky, hip.

Toby Ferris is also responsible for Anatomy of Norbiton, a series of connected essays on Renaissance art and Ideal Cities. His first book, Short Life in a Strange World, was published by 4th Estate in the UK and Harper Collins US in 2020.
